Will be travelling around Italy this summer. Wanted to chill out at a low key beach resort for awhile....Anyone been to Elba? Could I find what I'm looking for? Just hanging around on a quiet little (beach) corner....catching the sun, have a drink, read a book...you know the stuff

In the summer the main beachs of Elba are jammed with tourists: anyway if you have a car you might reach the ones of more difficult access that are quite tranquil and secluded. Call the family that runs Montemerlo. It's on the southwest side; clean water, south-facing beach. I was here a few years back, and it was very, very good. The dining included is very, very good, and they have a variety of room types, including a small, inexpensive one for solo travellers.
