OK, your choice, but it will certainly not be a relaxing day out. If you want that you should choose somewhere nearer. Europe isn't Australia!
Positano is beautiful, yes, but also very crowded, expensive and very touristy in summer. Not a relaxing place IMO in any circumstances, at least unless you are staying in one of the super-expensive hotels that have the only decent access to the sea. Sperlonga would be a much better bet, two hours from Rome by train, also picturesque and with a superb beach.

No way. When I first read your post, I thought "getting to Positano from Rome in a day? No problem!" I didn't realize you also want to return. Even if the train connections work, the SITA bus from Sorrento will surely be packed and late. If you're determined to do this, book a tour in Rome.

Nel31y, Euro 9o per person is a lot . If you can, try to negotiate about the price ( for 8 persons he can do less), The good thing is that you can have the possibility to see also other place ( consider that you can visit Positano in three hours) like Sorrento, Amalfi ( I am not suggesting Pompei because to visit the ruins you will need a day). Have a nice trip/Buon Viaggio.

Hi Nel31y . Last information . I have found a Bus Company that goes from Rome to Positano. The bus depart at 7a.m. from Tiburtina Bus Station (you can arrive there with the metro) and arrives to Positano at 11.30 a.m. The departure from Positano is at 4.10 p.m. and arrives in Rome at 9 p.m. The website of the Company is www.marozzivt.it But this company is not very clear as a matter of fact doesn't show the price of the tickets so I am very suspicious ! ! ! If you want when you will be in Rome you can contact them to see if this company is correct or not . Ancora Buon Viaggio Giancarlo ( italyinexpensively)

thanks giancarlo, your so helpful thankyou
but we have found a private tour that will take all 8 of us for 600 euros
it is a 12 hour tour, and i think this is reasonable.
and i will get to see and possibly have a swim on the amalfi coastline.Im Happy

Hi!
We would like to take a day trip from Rome to Amalfi Coast as well...what company
are you using or have you already done the trip?
Would love to hear your feedback.
Thanks

Hi all,
yes we did the day trip.
It was fantastic, and we got to swim in the beautiful, salty sea.
Yes it was a long way, made longer because there were fires and we couldnt go via sorrento(which was a shame)
and would have LOVED to stay for a few days, but couldnt.
SO.......if you only have a day,and you may never get back there,Dont miss it.
i would definately do this again.....The Amalfi coastline is Spectacular...one of a kind!
We used Benevenuto limousines. They didnt charge us for the extra couple of hours we took because of the fires,
and it was very easy to just get dropped at the beach and picked up at arranged time, completely hassle free.
happy travels
