Hi all,
has anyone done Rome to positano as a day trip?
i know its a long way.......but has anyone done it/
If so How was it and how did you do it??????????
just tossing the idea around.....
thanks in advance nel

I agree it's too far for a daytrip. If you can't fit in at least an overnight stay skip Positano this time.

Hello Nel31y,
yes is a long way but in my idea, if you have time you can do,: The place is very nice. I am presuming that you are young and I don't think that you will be frightened from four hours train. Just for your consideration this could be the one day trip :
Depart from Rome Termini with fast train ( I think you have to book in advance) at 7,25 a.m. arrive in Naples at 8,52 a.m.
In Naples you have to take the Circumvesuviana private railway . The station is just near the Central Station where you will arrive. Departure from Naples at 9,09 a.m. ( or 9,39 there is a train every half hour) and arrive to Sorrento at 10,17 ( or 10,47). In Sorrento that it's also a beautiful city you can take the public Bus ( SITA line) to Positano Departure 11 a.m. ( or 11,30 there is a bus every half hour) and trough the panorama (sightseeing) road on the coast you will arrive in Positani at 11.50 a.m ( or 12,20) . You can have a bath on the nice Positano beach or/and a Spaghetti meal ( pay attention that Positano is quite expensive).
After the visit you can take the bus to Sorrento at 5,20 p.m. where you will arrive at 6,10 p.m. From Sorrento at 6,22 p.m. you can take the train to Naples where you will arrive at 7,27 p.m. From Naples at 8,36 p.m. you can take a traon To Rome. You will be there at 10.49 p.m. In total for tain a bus you will spend about Euro 80 per person. The other possibility is to contact some travel agent that normaly organize one day trip from Rome to Sorrento. If you need the Timetable for the train please feel free to ask other informations. Have a nice stay in Rome and Italy. Giancarlo (italyinexpensively)

hello thankyou all for your thoughts,
thanks so much giancarlo thats fantastic information,im really considering this- possibly a tour would be easier.
thanks again nel

i would suggest stay the night at sorrento..
i highly recommend porto salvo(its a quiet monastery with a small bar) at Sant'Agnello- its about a mile from sorrento
if you do end up staying there, i highly highly recommend having dinner at Sorrento Culinary School. its on the way from Sant'Agnello to Sorrento ( in a little alley) . the best 3 course meal i had for 15 euros (including octopus :) ! They serve dinner at 8 PM (theres a day or two in the week when they don't - so check before you go ) its totally worth a visit.

giancarlo!!! ma se poco poco le parte in ritardo il treno perde tutte le coincidenze e finisce che a positano riesce a starci mezz'ora!!!
i think that if you miss one of the train departures because of delay (that happens very often in italy) you will waste a day.

i have found a shuttle service that will take 8 of us to positano as a 12 hour tour.
It works out about 90 euros per person, which seems very reasonable to me.
has anyone got any thoughts on this?
thanks again nel

Still not worth it! Or at least I wouldn't do it. Too much time travelling. You can go somewhere nice that's much nearer Rome.

really suiko???????????????/we have just about made our minds up to do it.
we live in a small town in Australia which is a 4 hour drive to the nearest city,so the distance seems ok..
really want to see positano.....gives us about 4-5 hours roaming around .cant fit in a stopover,
may never be able to do this again....thought it would actually be a nice relaxing day out.
anymore thoughts????????
thanks im listening.
