Daily trip from Genova to Cinque Terre

Hi,

We booked holiday 3 nights Milan and 3 nights Genova in first week of November. We would like to visit Cinque Terre villages (last stop Riomaggiore) without accommodation. As far as learned that distance from Genova to Riomaggiore 120 km. Does anyone suggest which way is comfortable and easy way to see Portofino, Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and finaly Riomaggiore . Train or driving by car? I am concern about weather conditions might effect driving considering not knowing the road conditions.

The weather may be ok that time of year,or may be terrible.Decide when you are there.

I can't advise on Portofino - but it might be better to do that on another day.

It's worth becoming familiar with http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en (and use Italian station names).

Get a really early train from Genova Piazza Principe to La Spezia, buy the hop-on hop-off Cinque Terra day-ticket there, and visit in turn Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso. Time your day to pick up one of the less frequent Genova-bound trains that stop at Monterosso (at 16:55 for example).

Or there might be a good connection through Levanto. The website will explain all.

There is no question of taking a car, any time of year ... the train is far better. And stay flexible, and pick the day with the best-looking weather.

To get to Portofino, use bus 11 from La Spezia. Unless ferries are still running in November, that's the only way to get there.

From Genoa I guess you can take the train to Santa Margherita Ligure and then the bus from there?

I wouldn't try and do all that on the same day as the CT though...

You can't do all of this in one day from Genoa, or do them any justice, anyway. And as above, November weather could be dicey, and daylight will be short. If you do decide to do some of it - and I would axe Porotfino and stick to the CT only - definitely take the trains.
