Hello all,

I can either do a hut to hut traverse/via ferrata trip from June 25th to July 2nd, or July 9th to 15th. I have been pushing for the June option as I want to avoid crowds and be able to book refugios last minute, and it looks as if June will be ok for most places (re snow) as the snow has been lacking this year. But, the July dates work better for us, and if this two week difference won't be huge in terms of crowds, we will do that.

Can anyone tell me if there is a time when this region turns from manageable (can book refugios late in the game and not see tons of people on the Alta 2) to tons of tourists on their holiday? Should I make the June dates work or is it ok to hope there will be not too many people and last minute beds mid-July?

Thank you!

As long as you avoid the two central week in August there is no risk of overcrowding in July. A bit more people on weekends, best to book huts for weekends, during weekdays you'll be almost alone.

Beware of snow, last year I was there in the first week of July and all the trails above 2500 m were still impassable (without crampons, rope...). It depends where are you going. Snow has been lacking this winter, but the higher parts got heavy snow in April and also May seems quite snowy by now. If you avoid the weekends the 1st part of July should be ok for last minute bookings.

Thank you both. Good to mind!
