In December, on a weekday, is it possible to take public transportation from Cortina D'Ampezzo to Rome within one day?

I've done a lot of digging with no promising information about how early the buses and trains start running in Cortina (on weekdays in the winter season). Any advice would be helpful, especially if you have been on a similar trip. Thank you!

It took us two trains plus a bus to travel from Cortina to Bolzano, from where a trip to Rome would still be a few hours. However www.trenitalia.com is showing "only" 7h45m from Dobbiaco to Rome on 6 December, starting at 8:55 ... so if you can get the bus from Cortina to Dobbiaco early in the morning, you should be right. Not the only train either.

Here is the trenitalia link:

There might be connections via Venice as well, but I didn't look at those.

Awesome. This is reassuring. Thanks, Jingili!

The best two options are bus to Venice and then either fly or take the train. Google bus to Venice they won't have 2017 timetable but 2016 should come up, from Venice the train is 3 hours 30mins, bus takes about 2hours 30. Your only issue could be if it is early December the bus might not have started as it is little off season.

Yes ... if you can get from Cortina to Venice by bus in the morning, it will be the more direct option than via Bolzano. But at least you have a back-up that seems in place.

Perfect. Hopefully the bus to Venice will be running early by December 11, but the backup plan to Bolzano is noted for good measure. Thank you all!

Good luck if you are planning skiing it might need a bit early in the season.

Yes - Cortina is absolutely stunning - but I also wouldn't mind knowing why you're heading there around early December - if it's mostly pre-ski season.

Cortina d'Ampezzo dp 6.25 - Roma Termini ar 14.10, (change at Calalzo, Belluno and Padova)

etc etc

To be honest, none of these sound anywhere better or more attractive than my initial option via Bolzano.
