Hi,

I would be travelling to Italy with my girlfriend for the first time and this is our first time doing a carry-on only trip. We will be on a 11 day trip in mid June 2017 and need some advice on our itinerary. I would like to know if what i have planned out is too much of a rush or a comfortable trip.

Day 1- Arrive to Rome at about 7 pm - Stay in Rome
Day 2 - Day trip to Vatican city
Day 3- half day in Rome and travel to Naples by train (reach by 6 or 7pm) - Stay in Naples
Day 5 - Day trip to Capri
Day 6 - Day trip to Pompeii (Mount vesuvius) - travel to Salerno (reach by 6 or 7pm) - Stay in Salerno
Day 7 - Hike the "Path of Gods" (maybe not the entire rioute)
Day 8 - Visit Paestum / Free & Easy in Amalfi coast
Day 9 - Free & Easy in Amalfi coast
Day 10 - Free & Easy in Amalfi coast and travel back to rome (reach in the evening) - Stay in Rome
Day 11 - Afternoon flight from Rome airport

I would like to know, out of our 3 destinations, which should we spend the most time in (Rome, Naples, Amalfi Coast)? Im thinking of reducing a day in Amalfi Coast for another day in Naples or Rome but I cant decide which is more worth it. Also as we would like to travel on a budget and not spend too much time on travelling, is the place I chose to stay as a center of trip a good location?

Thanks.

Is your intention to stay in Salerno for days 6-9? Salerno is fine for visiting some of the places you're interested in but a bit far for others. For example, Salerno to Bomerano (where most people start the Path of the Gods walk) is about 2.5hrs I think and probably a similar travel time from Positano back to Salerno. A good starting point for travel times is rome2rio.com and then move to the local bus, ferry and train timetables.

Depends on your interests I guess.

Personally I'd cut a day from the AC and add it to Rome.

I'd also stay on the AC itself, rather than in Salerno....

Can you fly out of Naples?

Capri is worth a visit. Try to arrive later into Naples as they days are long and this gives you more time in Rome.

Make sure you never travel on a Sunday, less options.

Rome and Naples.
All those day trips will cost time and money.
Except the Vatican, which is a subway ride. But that's (currently) your only full day in Rome.
Looks like you've got one full day in Naples also. One day, that is, when you're not using it as a base to go somewhere else.

Can you fly out of Naples?

Better yet, can you fly in and out of Naples and skip Rome--since that's what you're basically doing anyway?
