I read with interest the post a short way down the page on Greek Island cruises. I am looking for exactly the opposite. A sort of study cruise for next spring. NO floating tourist villages. No discos, no shows, no games. Lectures, yes, (with a choice of languages) and field trips, that sort of thing. For middle aged and upwards. Any ideas?

Hello,
I am planning to spend a month in Greece next summer with my two girls, who will be 4 and 6 at the time. My husband will join us later in the summer, and we will travel around at that time, but for the first month, I kinda just want to plop ourselves down in one spot and get to know one little village or town, preferably with a sandy beach, a grocery store, at least 1 or 3 tavernas and somewhere to get a good frappe all within walking distance. I need to rent a one bedroom apartment or…
Two adults and son (age 12)--first trip to Greece. We will be returning to the mainland from Crete probably by early flight, if not by overnight ferry on day 1 (29 June 2008), planning to leave Greece on overnight train from Thessaloniki on day 5 (3 July 2008). Priorities: to see Theater at epidauvos, Diros Caves, Corinth Canal, Delphi, Meteora and Vergina. I know it's a lot for a little time. We will rent a car in Athens and drop it in Thessaloniki. We will have had 2 full days and 3 nights in…
I thought I was better off exploring 'ancient' Greece, rather than 'beautiful' Greece.
The plan is:
Day 1(Thu, Oct 18): Arrive in Athens at 02:30. Spend the day walking in the city and book tickets to go to Kalampaka. Stay overnight at Kalampaka.
Day 2(Fri): See the monasteries of Meteora. Get back to Athens. Spend night in Athens.
Day 3(Sat): Take the early morning bus to Diakofto. Take the mini train to Kalavrita. Trek down to the small village of Zachlorou. Stay overnight at Zachlorou.
Day…
Hello all, and thanks for all the help so far on picking which Greek islands we should visit! We had an issue with our previous user name (BenandBrittany), so we had to re-register. To recap, we are on an 8-month journey around the world, and today is our last day on Crete. We spent the last month in Chania, and I am now writing you from an internet cafe in Iraklio.
We leave for Santorini tomorrow, where we will spend 4-5 days, and we will then move on to one more island before hitting Athens…
Hi!
A friend of mine and myself are planning to go to Greece and take a cruise around the island in June. We'd like to go for at least a week. Everything I've found so far has been geared towards older people. We are looking for a YOUNGER crowd to cruise with. We are both 29 and would like to experience Greece with people in our age group, but I don't know where to look!
Any thoughts? :)
All of your advice in the postings has been way helpful!
I'm planning a way too short trip to Athens in a couple of weeks. Yes, I know, I know, but I'm limited by vaca time and budget.
Question, are things centrally located enough to walk to different attractions?
Also, I need to find an Athens hotel centrally located and in my budget. But I also wouldn't mind having a nice view, if possible. Can you walk to things if you're at a centrally located hotel without hopping on and off the metro?
I have…
Hello travellers, I would appreciate your quick help on:
a) Travelling from Skopje to Ioannina by car: which is the best route and how long does it take?
b) Highlights in the region around Ioannina/North-Western Greece for a two day trip by car?
Thanks a lot and happy travelling!
Martin
