I was wondering if there is any good time to book tickets for ferries to the greek islands. In essence, do prices change like airplane tickets? Am I not likely to find if I go to port?
I am interested in Athens-Mykonos, I don't care about the kind of ship, though I will be visiting in the beginning of June.
I see a lot of ships available:

There is no need to book the Rafina - Mykonos ferries long in advance. You may buy your ticket at Athens airport (after arrival) or at the port of Rafina.
And in response to your other question - NO, ferry ticket prices are the same year around - Govt. regulated.
PS: here is an interesting "factoid" -- a few years back, as in other countries, coffee prices all over Greece went up, ranging from €2 - 4 per cup depending upon how fancy the venue. EXCEPT -- on Greek ferries, coffee is price-controlled -- either €1.20 or €1.50 I think. After all the ferries are a govt-reg service, are a necessity for those living off the mainland, and the way I hear it, there was outcry at the idea of coffee price-rise on board.
Ferry prices are fixed and proportional to distance, fast catamarans are twice the price.
Prices are the same if you buy tickets in Rafina or book directly with the Greek ferry company, in either case you get/collect paper tickets from the agencies in Rafina.
Other ticket agencies may charge fees.
You don't normally need to book, the busiest ferries will be those to the islands prior to a weekend and at the end of weekend back to the mainland, what you would expect.
Hi, Good post. I had the same question but for a different route. I want to take ferry from Athens to Santorini and time is beginning of June. I hope the replies are valid in this case too?

Yes, it's the same for you at that time of year. I just buy tickets a day or two in advance, in part to check timings etc, they sell tickets almost up to departure time.
