Hi all! I'll be in Athens for the first time next Monday, just a quick 8 hour stop before heading to Santorini.

I have checked the hours to visit the Acropolis and must sites say its close at 3 pm in March, is it right?

Spring just entered (and one can tell) and sunset is at 6 pm, so it seems weird to me they would close it so early; does anyone know if they are actually still closing at 3 pm?

Thanks a lot.

Nanis, it has to do with the heavier "tourist season" and with costs, in a country with grave financial crisis. Last year & year before they managed to have extended hours for the major sites, starting in April ... who knows if they can manage it this year, with the influx of refugees that the rest of the EU doesn't seem in a hurry to help pay for. By the way, the major cost is for staff/guard salaries; to staff beyond 3 pm means an entire "second shift" of staffing.

The official site for timetables of archeological sites, museums etc is the portal of Grrek Ministry of Culture called Odysseus. When timetable swaps on summer schedule, it will appear here http://odysseus.culture.gr/h/3/eh355.jsp?obj_id=2384 . For the time been closure is at 3 pm and yes, extended timetable is expected to apply by 1rstr April.
