Town/city to stay night before US-bound flight from Athens International?

We have a 10-day Greece trip planned for June. Our itinerary is 2 nights in Athens, 3 nights Santorini, 3 nights Mylos, and 1 night Athens.

Are there any town/cities near Athens International airport worth checking out and staying overnight instead of being in Athens?

I don't think so. If you come from the Western Cyclades, Athens is the best solution. The only exception could be Piraeus if you arrive in late evening (by slow ferry) and want to go to the airport (bus X96) the following morning.
