We are currently in Greece (Mykonos) and will fly-out of Athens on next Friday morning. Are there any hotels very near the airport ? We are with our small son (2 years) and would like to have a good night of sleep before we leave. And since the flight is already very early in the morning, we would like to make the Pireus-Airport drive the evening before. Price is not very important for that one night. Thanks for your help.

sofitel and holiday inn both on the expensive side...

Since price isn't an issue, recommend the Sofitel. I've used it before an early morning flight, and the convenience of being only five minutes from airline check-in is worth paying a little more. Look for the special rate on their website for non-refundable bookings.

agree with above, the Sofitel is as convenient as airport hotels go, located at approx 150 m from departure doors at the airport

First of all thanks for your responses, I recognize some of the posters from my previous post when I was preparing my vacation (which have so far been perfect :-)
But now I feel a little bit bad because after checking the Sofitel rates I would like to retract my statement about price not being an issue. I guess that 150 euros represents the maximum I want to pay here. And the holiday Inn has no availability anymore.
So any alternate suggestion are still welcome. Maybe a hotel somewhere between Athen and the airport would be ok ? Sorry for my inaccurate first post.

The only alternative is Rafina/Lavrio or Mati. Use booking.com [athens airport hotels] for some ideas.
Travelling time from Rafina is about 20 mins, taxi approx 15 euro with luggage/ from Athens central area, travelling time approx 40-50 mins, taxi fare with luggage 30 euro approx. Balance out the difference and decide, as unfortunatley apart from H. Inn + Sofitel, there are no other nearby choices.

Since you are presently on Mykonos, consider going by ferry to Rafina the day before, then spending the night at a hotel in Rafina - it's a little bit closer to the airport than Athens. Depending on time, you can take a bus or taxi from there to the airport. I don't know of any hotels between Athens and the airport.

Just a quick word to let you know we are back home, and (as usual) your advice on rafina was excellent. Thanks
