Hi. I leave next month for a driving holiday throughout central Greece. I will end up in the Pelion, then back to Athens.

1. I know the bus trip from Volos to Athens is about 5 hours, so I figure I should be able to replicate that in my car (barring any misadventures along the way.) Anybody know how long it takes to drive the 90 km from the tip of the Pelion to Volos?

2. Will I be able to pick up lodgings in the Pelion fairly easily in mid September without calling ahead?

Hi Maimou,

My memory isn't what it used to be but when I saw your handle, Ithought it rang a bell and did a quick search and found this. So you've finally got round to doing it.

In answer to your questions, you should allow two hours from the tip of Pelion to Volos and you won't have any problem finding accommodation. Enjoy your trip.

For some reason, we always found it took a bit longer than the bus to drive from Volos to Athens but maybe that's just us being over-cautious! You are right, the bus takes about 4 hrs 45 mins.

Don't worry about availability of accommodation in september. We have spent around 10 days in Pelion last year in june (a month that i think is comparable with september), stayed in different locations there and most places weren't even half full. Be a bit more careful with saturday nights as many Athenians go away for the weekend.
Enjoy Pelion, it is very beautiful and relaxed with very hospitable people and very good food!
