I am having a hard time decided on lodging in Nauplion. I thought I wanted to stay at the Byron but they do not have a room with a view for a party of 3. Is there reason to stay there without a view?

Marianna Pension looks nice. We will have a rental car; is there a place to park near the pension? Above the pension by any chance?

Pension Amfitriti looks nice. I assume it is down in the town site. Is parking a problem?

Which is preferable to be high or down in the town? Does anyone have a specific recommendation between these two properties?

Thank you for your help.

I personally like to be high up, looking down at Old Town & Bay. However you DO have steps -- you will not be taking your car every time you want to stroll around town, go shoppping, have dinner. And the lanes leading down (AND up) are stair-steps. So take that into consideration.

Marianna Pension is lovely, and I believe it has VERY limited parking if u rent a car for your stay. you can easily inquire via e-mail. It IS however, quite a hike up from the level area.

Two other places, at the other end of the high part, on Zygomala street, are Hotel Leto and Pension Eleni right next door ... you can google them. They look DOWN on the roof of Hotel Byron. All Leto's rooms have a view because there is no "Back room" at the hotel -- it backs up against Acronafplia rampart wall.

We have toured Hotel Byron and it is quite sophisticated and well appointed. The reason you can't get a room with a view is because it is not high enough in the town and there are buildings in front of it . As far as I could see it did not have any views at all.
We lucked into Hotel Illion suites which had large balconies and Suite 14 (I think) had a wrap around balcony with sea view from the front and a fortress view from the side. Hotel Illion itself has no balconies and is very expensive so try its sister location at Illion suites. It is not cheap but is probably about equal to Byron.
Most of the hotels in Naphlion are up the hill from the waterfront and you probably have to be prepared to park your car and walk. There is a parking lot on the square about 75 meters form pension Elaine and Hotel Leto which makes them ideal places, however both are considerably less expensive than Byron or Illion.
