Hi do you know any book shops in Athens that you can by good road maps in English (no tourist maps) with reasonable prices. Thanks.

Look for the English versions of "ROAD EDITIONS" Maps.... they are use-tested and recommended by such Greece-gurus as TT's "Xaroula" ... the Peloponnese one is especially good she says... it is "bilingual, showng both english & greek names for everything. I bought mine right at the Airport on one of those book/magaizne places. I think/hope they also have an English version of their crete map.

You can get a free map of Greece plus maps almost from every region and islands of Greece with useful illustrated liflets at the information offices of the Greek National Tourism Organisation .Their offices are at Amalias street 26 opposite the National Gardens, and at Tsoha street 24 very near to Ambelokipoi metro station.

Number 2 is right on, we always use the Road editions it is with the cooperation of the hellenic army geographical service and it has every village and small road and dirt roads also. We live in Greece and always go on off road trips and this map is great. It has different numbers for the different areas as well.It is in Greek,English, Italian and German. Sometime gas stations have them and just ask at book stores. I don't see a web site for them but maybe look up roadeditions.gr or something. good luck and happy traveling.

Without a doubt the absolute best maps of Greece are produced by Road Editions. You can pick them up at most bookstores and periptora (street kiosks). Alternatively, check out the Road Editions bookstore in Athens.

A trip to the Road store is a real treat. Don't miss it!! And I can highly recommend the Anavasi map series for hiking (not driving). They have not covered the whole country yet though. Road of course for driving. If you plan to hike, I prefer Anavasi over Road. For both series, the prices are a steal.
www.road.gr is their site.
The Road Editions are excellent. You can also find these ( and other maps and travel guides ) at Papasotiriou on Eleftheriou Venizelou ( aka Panapisitimou, at the metro station with the same name ), and at Eleftheroudakis, at Nikis ( near Sintagma ), and at Mitropeleos ( very near to the cathedral, in the basement of Starbucks Coffee ). At my knowledge both have still other branches in town, and definitely at the airport.
