greek islands recent review

I have just arrived back from 6 weeks in the greek islands - given all the help I had from this forum - thought I would feedback.

Sleeping in Athens airport was just fine, given our early flight the next morning. sleepinginairports.com was great with their advice. Flew on Aegean airlines to Samos. 15k maxium on plane, so watch this. Don't book ferries during October on a Sunday - the booking agents close at 1.00 and if the ferry doesn't make it you will have problems getting your money back. The greek hoteliers are just wonderful - so hospitable...mostly we were collected at the ferry by the hotel. Only booked hotels from island to island (except for Santorini) often getting a recommendation from the previous island hotelier or other tourists we ran into. Seldom paid more than 30 euros, always had an ensuite. Air pencil otherwise known as skyexpress has a max of 12.5 ks so what this one. They don't have overhead lockers either so you have to sit with stuff on your lap. No matter though. The greek pilot raged loudly in greek at the co-pilot the entire journey - heaven knows what was going on and the priest behind us spent the entire time crossing himself!!! This was Rhodes to Crete - couldn't cope with a 12 hr ferry that started at 4.am. Crete to Santorini we found a ferry that is not well known - fast but very enclosed - Jetstar I think it was called. (not sure though) No one had heard of it. Aris Caves in Santorini - to die for. Sun didn't leave the terrace until after 5.00 and we could see the view of the aegean from our bed. Crista and Ari were amazing hosts. But absolutely don't go there because I want to keep the secret. For older folk from our cave we had 92 steps to the street. Husband has RA so this was pretty relevant. Do Santorini last though - we just lay around and read. Went Samos/Patmos/Leros/Kos/Rhodes/Crete and then Santorini. Happy to give hotels details in any of these places. Hired a car in Samos and Crete.

Busy plotting how I can return soon. Want to see more of the cyclades - had really wanted to do Amorgos and Naxos but the connections made it pretty impossible at that time of the year.
