I'm interested in obtaining greek drachma (the currency that was in circulation before the euro), coins as well as banknotes. I will be in Athens in November. Does anyone know a coin store that may sell this, or is there anyone on this forum who still has some left? I'm willing to pay more than they were once worth :)

Thank you EpicEm for the idea. The problem is I'm more interested in modern bulk coinage (think kilograms). I'll be using it for an art project. On eBay, most items are "collectors items" which would make my project very expensive :)

A better idea is to go to Monastiraki on Sunday morning (every Sunday there's an open air 'bazar'-type market there) and wander around. You'll find many old things there, including old money. All kinds of old Greek money, not only drachma.

Agree with #3 Monastiraki is the best place. As you walk out from Thission Metro station from the beginig of Adrianou street are the usual stands of the Sunday street market for old coins.

Actually eBay does have some modern currency on sale. Check here, for example. But I agree that Monastiraki will probably have some for sale, too.

ijuliano is spot on, - the beginning of Adrianou Street [near Thissio station], on a Sunday.
You'll also find other collector items [ 2004 official Olympic badges etc.,]
