Hi my friends!
Im about to book my trip to Greece this year, in september and would really appreciate some good expertise advice.
We are a couple, late 30s, and we are spending our birthdays there. We would like to have a good mix of relax at the beach/culture/nature/history. we trying to keep a reasonable budget, that said, stay in basic hotels, and might consider rent a scooter/car for a while.
here is the plan so far:
Day 1
Arrive at 9:10 in Athens (after a 17 hours flight).
Get a ferry to Paros at 17:30/21:45
Day 2
Day and night in Paros
Day 3
Day in Paros
Get a ferry to Mykonos at 20:45/22:20
Day 4
Mykonos day and night
Day 5
Get a ferry to Santorini at 14:45/17:25
Day 6
Day and night in Santorini
Day 7
Get a ferry to Milos at 16:00/21:30
Day 8
Day and night in Milos
Day 9
Day and night in Milos
Day 10
Get a ferry at 17:30/21:45 to Athens
Day 11/12/13/14 Greece Main Land (here we are considering to check Acropolis/Delphi/Meteora etc. we would rent a car for this 4 full days)
Day 15 Return flight by noon.
1- what do u guys think about it?
2-what is a "must see" in this locations/best neighborhoods to stay?
3- Regarding the first day (we will have about 4/5 realistic hours in Athens, in between the airport and Piraeus, so there is anything that can be done in this time frame with light luggages?)
4-And the 4 full days in the mainland, how it could be split in a road trip in between Athens (Acropolis), Poloponnese (Nafplio/Corinth/Sparta--does it worth to check this places?) and Meteora ?
5- Any good recommendation regarding hotels in this places?
6- Should we skip Mykonos and stay more time in Santorini?
thank you so much for your help!
Vivi

I strongly advise you re-assess your first day. After a 17 hr flt, you will be terribly jet-lagged, and without a hotel room [supposedly] and in Athens ! [not the best place to be]. My advice is to take the 13.45 h flt out to Paros with Olympic. That way, you can start off your holiday [jet-lagged nevertheless] but in Paros directly, without wasting the day in Athens in a deluded state.
The choice of your islands is fine, many may suggest Naxos instead of Mykonos-I myself enjoy Mykonos off season- Naxos on the other hand can' be appreciated in 1.5 days, as there is so much to see.
By the way, you can easily reverse your Paros-Mykonos order - this way you might get more choices for departures to Mykonos from either Piraeus or Rafina, to absorb the waiting period on day 1.
Athens-Nafplion [Corinth-Epidaurus-Mycenae-] overnight/ Olympia o/n - Delphi o/n, visit Meteora, back to Athens needs at least 5 days. You allocate only 4 - unless you skip Olympia [or Sparti/Mystra] and drive out from Nafplion to Delphi in one day [a very long drive]
Have fun,

Too many places in too short a time. Too much time spent moving from one to another. I don't think you realize how much time you actually waste when you move. At least half a day per move is spent, packing and going to the harbour; waiting for the ferry; on the ferry; going to a hotel and unpacking.
All of day 1; evening of day 3; afternoon and half the evening of day 5; all afternoon and evening of day 7; all afternoon and evening of day 10 and probably at least another half day on the mainland. That's at least 5 days out of your fifteen (counting day 15) lost.
You also seem to forget that you have to check out of a room at noon. So if you have a ferry at 17.30 or 20.45, what are you doing with your bags between noon and the ferry departure? Answer, lugging them around all day.

Diana,
thank you for your input. No, there is no flight direct from the airport from Athens to Paros when we are landing, the september 07. (i considered it, of course, and would be a blash if could do so). But as i see, i will have to handle the jetlag... I agree with you, but i have no choice.
About reverse Paros-Mykonos order, i also considered it, but my idea is to spend my birthday, on the 10th, in mykonos, to be able to enjoy the "party" feeling that everybody is scaring me about. And because of so, if i go straight on the 07 till 10, that would means 4 full days and nights, there, what might be too much of a party. :-)
thats why the Paros before, even because is a more relaxed idea.

There is absolutely nothing 'relaxed' about your itinerary and you have completely ignored #2's excellent advice. Do yourself a big favour and rethink your itinerary as four islands in nine days is too much.

Grecophile, i didnt ignored any advice (by the way, thank you cognomen). I know my schedule fits in a " rush explore" idea. But still, it is an idea. I still might consider skip one island (as i mentioned) regarding time "in between ferries" after check out from the hotel, with really light luggages, we can just sit in a restaurant and have lunch. (we would have it anyway, right?) . But unfortunely sometimes we have to work with what we have, and in Greece, the islands hopping is part of the deal. At this point, im more interested in ideas about what to do in this places.

Much as I love Paros, my recommendation would be to skip it and go straight to Mykonos. What would you do there in a day and a night anyway? IMO Paros isn't a very good island for short stopovers - the best beaches and resorts are at other parts of the island, and Parikia, where the ferry docks, not the most attractive port at first appearance. There are several flights per day to Mykonos with both Olympic and Aegean, and you should still have a chance to book seats.
Another alternative, if you plan to hang around Athens all day, is to book into a hotel and stay overnight before proceeding to Mykonos.

BTW, since you are new to Thorn Tree, you may not realize that you have already received advice from some of the most experienced posters on Greek travel. When they say four islands is too much in nine days, that is correct. Each time you move from one island to another you have spent most of that day checking in and out of hotels and riding the ferry. So four of those nine days will be pretty much wasted, unless you really love riding ferries.
I see by your itinerary you plan to take ferries that leave late afternoon/evening, perhaps thinking you will then have the whole day to explore the islands. That may work out, or maybe not. On some routes ferries don't even run daily, never mind several times a day. I am thinking particularly of the Santorini-Milos segment. The downside, of course, is that instead of spending the evening having a nice meal in an island taverna, you will be sitting on the ferry eating cheese rolls.

It's the same on all the branches. A poster gives an impossibly hectic schedule; regulars tell the poster to cut down on the travel or they'll see nothing but buses/planes/sea; OP gets offended by the advice. It makes you wonder why the advice was sought in the first place.

Baz Faz, I agree, but the OP is free to ignore any and all advice if he chooses. In this case vivavidi did look up the ferry schedules, because the times shown in his itinerary appear to be ferries currently shown on the websites. If, and it's a big if, all the ferries sail as scheduled, the itinerary is doable. Whether it will be enjoyable is another matter - ferries aren't cruise ships, and sitting in an uncomfortable seat in a smoke-filled cabin is not the way I like to spend my evenings.
Those with experience know that ferry schedules do change at short notice, particularly around September when shipping companies are cutting back from the summer season. With a tight schedule, plans can quickly come unraveled.
