This trip in from Aug 4-20
I've alway found great advice here so please tell me what you think! here goes:
2 adults and 13 yo son (history buff)
Day 1: Arrive Athen's in morning. Staying at Evripides Hotel near/ in Psyrri. Spend day in Acropolis area/Ancient Agora and flea market. (looking for antique daggers if anyone knows a good shop or two)
Days 2-5(3 nights) Guided Classical Greece tour: Epidaurus, Mycneae, Olympia, Delphi and Meterora. (booked through Viator)
We don't really like big tour groups but don't know how else to do this area (Don't have the budget for private tour). Back to Athens early evening of day 5
Day 6 Temple of Olympian, Zeus and Panathenaic Stadium
Day 7-8 Ferry to Sifnos (2 nights Sifnos) Would love suggestions if another Island is more interesting. Trying to avoid Mykonos.
Day 9-10 Ferry to Santorini (2 nights Santorini)
Day 11 late evening flight to Thessalonikki
Days 12-16 Spend with local friend who will take us to sites and beaches for 5 days.
Day 17 flight to Istanbul.

We cannot re-arrange the timing of Thessalonikki and our flight from Santorini-Thess is already booked.
I can shorten the classical Greece tour by one night and leave out Meterora for an extra night in Athens or the islands Suggestions welcomed! Thanks in advance!

No, don't cut out Meteora.

Days 2-5(3 nights) Guided Classical Greece tour: Epidaurus, Mycneae, Olympia, Delphi and Meterora. (booked through Viator)

One tour covers all of these? It's a pretty broad area, but I suppose 4 days, 3 nights is long enough to cover it.

Days 12-16 Spend with local friend who will take us to sites and beaches for 5 days.

In the Chalkidiki peninsula, I'm assuming. Beautiful landscape and coastline/beaches.

Maybe s/he will also take you for some hiking at Mt Olympus national park.

Day 7-8 Ferry to Sifnos (2 nights Sifnos) Would love suggestions if another Island is more interesting.

Naxos is quite popular here at LP. Personally, I think you can't go wrong with Syros and its lovely neoclassical town, or off-the-beaten-path Andros (lovely island, real close to Athens). Can't go wrong with Naxos, Syros, Andros, or Sifnos.

There are some interesting shops that might have antique daggers on Apollonos Street, which runs parallel to Mitropoleos Street. Mitropoleos street is the one that connects Syntagma Square with Monastiraki Square. Google Maps will make it all clear. Otherwise there are lots of shops in the Plaka that might offer something interesting, although I'm not sure about the 'antique' aspect.

I would be a little concerned about doing so much it what potentially could be an extremely hot time of the year. August is super high season so suggest you get island accommodation booked up ASAP especially Santorini where you might struggle with a short stay in August

Too rushed for me, and what a pity not to have much time in Athens. This, and the concentration on the islands later in the trip, suggests to me that the history buff of the party may come home disappointed. There's enough of historical interest on the mainland for you to devote your time to that, if you really prefer history to beaches.

Nothing to do with your itinerary but, should you find the desired antique dagger, be sure you can fly home with it and it doesn't get confiscated. Possibly can put it in hold baggage but would need to check the rules.
