Just wondering when the peak of "gay season" is in Athens & Mykonos. My partner and I are interested in traveling during this time because we're looking forward to the crowds and parties. Can anyone recommend the best time to experience this height of nightlife? I have heard it's the last 2 weeks of August, but some books put it in September. Thanks!

For Myconos is August. Athens has a gay scene all year long, but of course not as wild as Myconos

The gay season in Athens is the days of "Apokries" (something similar to Halloween at end of February begining of March depending the date of the Greek Easter Sunday) At the last Sunday of Apokries season there are carnivals in many areas of Athens (most popular the Carnival in Moshato). I can't though say that is jolly and gay as it use to be 20-30 years ago. The gay crowds used to go in Plaka ,in nowadays arround Psiri area. But the real gay season in Greece generally is during political elections, that is what I call a gay season :)

Go to Gazi neighborhood in Athens. Take the metro till kerameikos station. This is the new, fast developing gay village of athens...
cheers

This is all great advice! Thanks! I think we will plan on vacationing in the last half of August. Of course, high season, so high prices on hotels. Any recommendations? I'd love to stay at Elysium on Mykonos, but I don't think I can afford the rooms there for 6 nights! Ouch! Any other good hotels that are part of the gay scene on Mykonos or in Athens, for that matter?

#3 Ghazi is the one of the newest upscale areas with restaurants and bars in the center. It actually constitutes part of a "walkable triangle" of nightlife in central Athens, along with Psyrri and Thissio.
I would hardly characterize it as the new"gay village of Athens." In fact, I would go as far as to say it is incorrect to do so.
