Has anyone been to Folegandros? I'll be there from May 22nd-24th and was wondering if it's worth visiting or should I head to Santorini. The one thing I'm worried about with Santorini is the crowds. I'm also traveling alone.

Hi,
I have stayed on Folegandros about 4-5 times in the last 30 years. It is well worth a few days, a characterful Chora, a number of pleasant hikes around the island. So are islands on the way like Serifos > Sifnos > Milos/Kimolos > Folegandros, and from Folegandros > Sikinos > Anafi > Ios > Amorgos. Notice that avoidance of Santorini is extremely easy to achieve.

Santorini is not all crowded, far from it, most Europeans stay in Perissa and Kamari Beach on the east coast of the island. No 'must see' International tourists or Cruise passnegers, thus no crowds. The latter group seem to be unaware of this. So take your pick if want to stay on Santorini.

Personally I would rather stay on the surrounding islands like Anafi, Ios, Sikinos, Folegandros, Amorgos.

Thanks for the advice. I guess late May isn't really high season yet right?

Yer, Late May is roughly the start of mid-season. High season from about Mid-July for most islands.

Hi

Santorini is already very busy in Fira and Oia (we have one of the most busy starts since I came her 23 years ago)BUT as mentioned, here are also many villages with nearly no tourists.
Check if there are rooms at Donna's House in Pirgos or through www.airbnb.com. On booking.com there is also the Bed&Breakfast "Cultural House" in Pirgos .
Megalochori is another charmy and quiet village. Here you have Villa Aegeon on booking.com for 40 euro a night.
In beautiful little Akrotiri village you can find Villa Galinia for 40 euros at the same site. (I checked for the dates you mentioned)
If you really want quiet, stay in Thirasia, the island opposite Santorini and take one of the 3 boats over to Santorini in the days. Zacharo Rooms are basic but nice and only 30 euros per night!

I went with a friend to Folgandros in the end of April and totally loved it! The beaches are not very good but the village Chora so, so cosy. We did some long treks here.
I also love many of the nearby islands : Milos, Paros, Anti Paros, Ios.

Thanks for advice. I decided to just go to santorini. It's my first time and I probably should see it once in my lifetime. But, I'll have to hit up folegandros next time I go back.
