Hi travelers,

does anybody know what is the cheapest way to get from Santorini to Mykonos? I thought ferry is cheaper than flying but all what I find is more than 80€. What is the cheapest ferry company?
Do I need to book in advance or just show up at the port? Does it operate daily and frequently?

Hope to get some answers here..
Thanks so much in advance :)

Your problem is, the only ferry transport between those two island is High season, and only on fast-ferries. These vessels do not carry freight and cost twice as much as conventional ferries. The wry answer is, if you can afford to visit and stay on the two MOST expensive islands in GReece, then you must be affluent enough that fare should not be a concern! If you're a budgeteer, you might consider going to a less-expensive island. IF it's parties you're after and you're going in July-August, Paros has plenty, and the fare on a conventional (Blue STar) ferry is I think about €20. THese ferries are very large (1500 people+) so just buy economy ticket on the day. The Livadia-beach area north of the port town has a lot of cheap rooms of varying quality.

80€ is the price of lunch on the beach in Mykonos, without champagne:(

Ferry fares are fixed, Fast ferries being twice the price and if you want to go direct Santorini > Mykonos your only option, that in summer is several times daily.

The large catamarans do take freight, however they are so expensive that numbers are small.

You can do it cheaper by taking a conventional ferry to Ios or Naxos and change to another conventional ferry from those to Mykonos. Currently looks like Naxos has better options than Ios.

Obviously it makes sense to take the earliest conventional ferry from Santorini to get a connection on Ios or Naxos.

It's true that the only available ferries are the high-speed ones! But as ouzo mentioned you can try having a stopover in another island. This can be quite cheaper and you also have the opportunity to see the other island for some hours. I think that apart from Naxos and Ios there are also other options, depending on the day. I would propose that you try www.ferryhopper.com, as they show routes with intermediate destinations.
