My teenage daughter and I are doing a day trip to Delphi from Athens next month. In a previous thread going by public bus was recommended instead of a tour.
I found a link from GoGreece to a private driver named Nicolas who does day trips to Delphi and other places. Does anyone know anything about him? Would that be insanely expensive? Would it be just insane?

I think you had better find out what the fee is first. It is a very long trip, about 5 hrs. from Athens then 5 back . We live in Spetses island and it takes about 3,5 hrs . to drive to a place across from the island and if you need to go by taxi it is about 200 euro for that. just to go. THere are daily tour busses that go there for I am sure much less. Check out arimar.gr it is a tourist office that does all of this stuff. I work with the owner when he sends tourists to Spetses and I get them to their villas. I had my cousin use him for a 3 day tour in Athens, Delphi, Sounioun and around at night in Athens. He said it was great and very well organized. Find out what they charge. If you have a problem finding them. write me. His name is Makis Koulpalidis and it is Arimar Travel. Their office number is 210 8981162 with the country code in front of all of those numbers from where ever you are calling from. good luck.

Athens to Delphi it's not 5 hours. It's approximately 3-3 1/2 hours on a car, maybe less if the driver is familiar with the trip, and about 3 1/2 to 4 hours on a public bus (KTEL). It's true that Fokis KTEL is not famous for its drivers ot its luxury coaches, but a trip is doable if you take the early morning bus and return on the latest evening bus. It's going to take some more time than the taxi, but it's much cheaper. If you need a guided tour, then yes,it worths look on a travel agent for an organised trip. If not, I find no reason spend all the extra money to hire a taxi and not going on the public bus. Even if taxi driver is quite knowlegable and promiss to provide information about the site, would be cheaped to just use the bus and arrange a guide through the museum. Please note that in order to take a good look of the museum and site, you need at least 3 hours.

#2 is correct.

Consider a Athens bus tour. You do not have to tag along with the guide, if any when you get there. The museum is a must first see, than go out onto the site.

Check out the tour bus to see how long you are on site.
