I'm a single female in my mid-twenties who is currently in law school in NYC. I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with my spring break (mid-march, the week before Easter). I want to go somewhere I've never been before, and is safe for me to travel by myself. I've been to a lot of western Europe before, including parts of Greece, which I absolutely loved. I've always wanted to go to Crete and was wondering if its a reasonable trip or if I should consider somewhere else?

Thanks!

It depends what you want to do. It's starting to warm up a bit in March, but it's certainly not swimming or beach weather. Check the weather averages here. Many of the coastal towns are shuttered for the winter, so it will be quiet (which may or may not appeal to you).

that link doesn't have crete average weather that i can see... this one does but i'm thinking they are projecting a bit lower than expected: http://www.holiday-weather.com/crete/averages.html

if you do end up going i'd recommend staying in hania and travelling around the west coast (samaria gorge, elofonissi, etc)

i have my greece photos (spent a week on the western part of crete) here if you want to check them out (if you're like me i love looking at photos of places before going): www.coreybyrnes.com

A reminder that a lot of the locals in Greece are on the move around Easter.....going to home towns for Easter festivities...so book early.

Just spent a month on Crete myself (Chania in particular), and recommend it. I don't know if Samaria is open in March, but there's plenty to do on the Western side of Crete. To get to Crete involves quite a bit of traveling from the states (at LEAST one full day, if you don't crash in Athens one night). Let me know if you want more specific info -- we stayed in a great place that I recommend and took some neat day trips, which were my favorite part!
