Hi there,

A friend and I are heading to Corfu July 29-Aug 4th and we are trying to decide where to stay whilst we are there. The main thing we are worried about is getting stuck in a town or hotel dominated by family package holiday makers. We are after a young vibe, with a good local atmosphere, ie we want to be able to eat in tavernas and get to experience a bit of viilage life, and of course good beaches. We were thinking a hostel wouyld be our best bet to avoid the package holidays, although Sunrock near Pelakas and The Pink Palace seem to be our only two options.

Has anyone stayed at either of these, or both? We are worried, especially with somewhere like the Pink Palace, that we will end up spending all our time within the hostel grounds as it seems quite self contained, and outside of the local village.

Would anyone have any advice or other suggestions - it would be greatly appreciated!

There are no hostels in Corfu.

Having said that, Pink Palace and Sunrock work in a similar way. I can't tell you much about Sunrock but I would suggest avoiding Pink Palace. It's in the village but as you noticed is self contained and is basically a constant drunken party kind of place...It might sound good but forget the local atmosphere tavernas etc.....

I usually suggest to people to find a place in Corfu Town and rent a car to move around. It offers a lot of things from bars to museums and it sits in the middle of the island with the farthest part of the island about an hour away.

There are certain places that usually cater to younger people but even though have a beach (not always great) and tavernas and bars etc you don't really get any of the local flavour.

It's basically up to you....Give me some more specifics if you like so I can give you more details.
