I'm looking to travel by ferry from Athens to Istanbul in early September i understand that these days theses not a direct route and you have to go via one of the islands does any one know which ones?

Thanks

I did it some times ago, I went Samos-Kusadasi but there is also a ferry from Lesbos and another one Rhodes-Marmara. I believe there are 2 other convenient islands, but I can't remember them right now.

It would be ferry, ferry, LONG bus ride - why don't you just get a train via Thessaloniki?

By sea, you'd need to sail from Piraeus to one of the Greek islands (I forget which one) then change ferries onto another for Turkey, then catch a bus to istanbul across Turkey.

Train is easy - For train info, see www.seat61.com/Turkey2.htm</a>
