#5 Sorry Diana, no offence intended (with my "driving like a maniac" comment) but, as you say, you are an experienced driver in Greece. We don't do a lot of Greek driving (except me on my motorbike on the Pelion peninsula which is a much quieter and emptier place than most) so we are much more cautious on our journey, hence it takes about 4 hours to Volos at least (also at the end of a day's travel by 'plane one is too tired to take any risks). I suspect, therefore, the OP would take considerably longer than 2.5 hours. 4.5 hours from Halkidiki to Athens is very impressive!!

#of course no offence taken, Nicola... I think the 2.5 hrs is pretty much the norm for Volos, for accustomed drivers. It's really not that I drive particularly fast, but as I do know the route, and the roads quite well, 2.5 hrs is not particularly unrealistic for 300 kms, although if you get caught in traffic getting out of Athens, you certainly can add one more hour to your travelling time. Directly from the airport, you actually miss the fun part, and get almost straight onto the national highway.
[4.5 hrs -for the beginning of August, and the roads were totally empty!]
