I am thinking about popping to Mexico for a few months, would like to relax and live in a community that I can get to know and enjoy. Somewhere relatively welcoming, friendly and cheap! a non too touristic lazy beach town/resort that is culturally interesting or close to something that will keep me going.
Diving, snorkling, trekking and of course, a bar or two.
any ideas?

Are you sure you are posting in the right branch? It seems that your "popping" destination is different from your post title.
in case you mistyped then here are some tips about Greece. For relax and easier contact with the locals you should try small Greek islands away from the mainstream tourism like Anafi, Koufonissi, Lipsi,Tilos. As you will have much time than you can visit more mainstream and gay islands like Mykonos ,Santorini ,Paros ,Ios ech.

what does Mexico have to do with this? explaine so we can answer. you probably just did it out of living somewhere near Mexico like California or something. Anyway eastern side of the Peleponisos is good near Leonidion. Poulithra village just next to it is friendly, quiet and lots of rooms to let on the water front and cheap. Leonidion is a beautiful old town with beautiful red cliffs. near to Nafplion and Corinth. have fun
