Going to Greece for 15 days and am flying into Crete on June 1 and flying back to Athens on June 5. So I'll have 3.5 days to spend in Crete. Not enough I know, but it will have to do.

I want to go through a stroll through the Samia Gorge, although I might take the shorter route starting in Agia Roumeli. After that, nothing is planned. I was told by my sister-in-law that Agia Galini is really nice, so I'll likely head there at some point, possibly stay there for a night, or somewhere close, depending on what I come across.

Other than that, any suggestions of places to go or things to see in such a short period of time? I plan to be back in Chania the night of June 4 for my early morning flight on the 5th.

I would not walk the Gorge from A Roumeli. It's a boring flat road about 2 km to the Gorge and you have to walk the same way back. You'll miss the most beautiful and interesting parts of the walk that way. Take an early morning bus from Chania and then in the afternoon a ferry and bus back to Chania. You'll have a lot of time to stroll through the gorge, it's not very hard. Just take some snacks, there's water from wells on the way to fill your bottle.

#1 is wrong. The best - most dramatic etc - part of the gorge is the bottom half. Ideally, stay in Ag Roumeli overnight, and get an early start. You'll be able to walk up to the half way point at old Samaria village, and back down to Roumeli before 'bottom end' day trippers get to the gorge, and before the top-end starters get to the midway point.

I've done this several times, to explore the geology of the area (or just enjoy scenery) on my own. If I meet 8-10 people in 4-5 hours it is busy.

It's neither practical or convenient to combine Ag Galini with Chania/Ag Roumeli. The scenery is more spectacular around Roumeli and the small villages are less developed touristically. Ag Galini is OK if you like a package holiday ambiance (some like it).
