My partner and I are tentatively planning a 3 week trip to Switzerland/Germany somewhere between late Jan and early March. We like natural beauty, outdoor activities (short hikes, snowshoeing etc; I ski but he doesn't so I probably won't on this trip), castles, medieval history, interesting local culture and local cuisine (both food and drink, especially beer). Not so interested in: art, night life, modern history, museums unless they are quirky or otherwise fit into our interests. We are…
Hello :)
I will be in Berlin in 2 weeks time and would love to go to the KitKatklub....being a huge fan of Cabaret and all it's seductions it seems the KitKat was the first and still is the place to go for an experience - a wild night of various costumes, depravity and complete hedonism. So- are there other places like the KitKatKlub - I assume yes, is the KitKat what it once was? Is it worth it to go-it's my first time in Berlin and its something that I would love to see ....but......is it…
Hi,
I am an annual Christmas Markets' goer and have been to Aachen, Cologne, Baden Baden, Munich, Nurnberg and Salzburg previously.
I am looking for something a bit special this year and planning to take in best part of a week over there. We would arrive on a Monday evening (9th Dec) and probably leave Sat evening / Sunday. I have 2 high level itineraries in mind currently
Berlin Dresden Prague (I have been to both Berlin & Prague before)
Munich (day trip to Regensburg) Innsbruck Zurich…
Hi all,
I'm an American citizen living in Berlin, Germany and I'm about to vacation in Spain. I would like to rent a car there and it appears I need to have an International Drivers Permit. I have a valid New York State state license at the moment.
Can anyone tell me the quickest way to obtain an IDP in Berlin? Need one as soon as possible.
Thanks!
Hi all,
I will be in Dresden on business in late January 2014. I am thinking of staying several more days and visiting the sights of Dresden and Meissen. But the main question is the Saxon Switzerland. How feasible is it to visit it in January? Is it possible to visit Bastei and Konistein Fortress in one day?
Thanks in advance for all the advice!
Hello Everyone-
My wife and I will be renting a car in Bavaria from October 22 through November 7th. We will spend time in Munich, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and Mittenwald, before heading north to Rothenburg, Bamberg and ending up in Berlin.
For our time in Bavaria, which may include a trip through the Brenner Pass to Italy, would you recommend snow tires at this time of the year?
Are winter tires necessary?
Thanks!
Ean

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi all,
I'm in my last year of high school and looking at studying overseas, and due to not having parents who can bankroll tens of thousands of dollars a year to study in the UK/US etc I'm looking at Germany due to low tuition fees (I'm from NZ). I gather cost of living in Berlin is in the region of 800 euros a month, is this correct? And if so I'll need a part time job while studying.
My main question is how feasible is it for a foreign student with little knowledge of German to get a part…
Hello,
Can you please tell me the best plan for making local phone calls and possibly some international calls for a mobile phone - I do not need any data, just phone calls and text.
Also where do I get it from in Germany eg Supermarkets, Train stations.
Thank you
Hello,
I am travelling from Salzburg and was going to go to Munich but would be arriving on the 7th which would be just afte Oktoberfest finishes so I am guessing the Hotels etc will still be quite expensive or booked out.
So my other option was going to be to travel to Garmish - Partenkirche and stay there for a few days, but all I can really think of I am interested in seeing there is the town itself, Mittenwald and the Zugspitz, so am thinking it might be better to travel a little further…
