Hey all,
I note that in a few previous pots about Karlsruhe a couple of people have mentioned working there. I have just move to Ettlingen and i am a qualifed TEFL teacher and also have been working a a business consultant for about 5years...so I am wonder what people are working as, any tips for finding work (web sites/companies etc) and any other relevant information. Visa will not be a problem as i am soon to have a German child which gives me full working rights etc.
look forward to info,
Greg

As a native, I am not too familiar with visas, residency and work permits required in Germany, but I have never heard that having a child in Germany is sufficient to give you full working rights.
If you are an EU citizen, do not need a work permit, if you are not, you should check with your local Ausländerbehörde, just in case. Potential future employers will also want to be reassured that you will indeed be able to work for them.
If you are a non-EU citizen and a native speaker of English, getting a permit for working as a teacher in a language schools such as Inlingua or Berlitz is comparatively easy.
To look for other jobs, check the Arbeitsagentur database or websites such as monster.de, read the papers (BNN, FAZ), use the yellow pages, find out whether consultancies in your field are based in/near Karlsruhe and get in touch with them.
You may also find this website and in particular its chat forum of interest: Toytown.

Thanks for the help it's greatly appreciated. We have looked into the Visa and working thing already and it all good for me to start working s soon as the baby is born as the wonderful German government views it as important that the child has 2 parents.
Cheers again for the help,
Greg

German papers have job ads in their Saturday editions. Check Badische Neueste Nachrichten (BNN) for Karlsruhe, Badisches Tagblatt for Rastatt, Badische Zeitung for Freiburg, Mannheimer Morgen for the Mannheim area, Stuttgarter Zeitung OR Stuttgarter Anzeiger (they belong together and their ads are the same, so one of them is enough) for the Stuttgart area - in addition to the big papers like FR, FAZ, Süddeutsche, Zeit.
Look at the Kurier too, that free weekly paper which comes on Thursday night.
A business web portal that may be useful is www.xing.com</a>, especially for business consulting stuff - register there.
I suppose the German language is not an issue?
