The union of the public transport workers here in Berlin today announced an indefinite strike, starting wednesday, March th at 03.00.

This strike will run till further notice.

The subway (u-bahn), the trams and buses will NOT run. At ALL.

The S-bahn will run, since it is operated by the DB, the German railways.

As a result, most major roads in Berlin are expected to be full and slow-moving-

If you are in Berlin for a meeting, make sure to allow for extra transport time.

Regularly updated info on the BVG-Website (the company running U-Bahn, Busses and Trams) in English:

There's more info on the German BVG-site, though, including a map of the emergency-buslines (going every 30 mins):

Latest news: The locomotive drivers' strike has been cancelled. Bahn and union have come to an agreement last minute.

Nevertheless the emergency timetable will be in effect on Monday March 10, i.e. tomorrow. Be prepared for trouble. From Tuesday on things will be back to normal.

To reiterate: The S-Bahn commuter trains will continue running, but U-Bahn (subway), trams and buses are still on strike. Some energency bus routes are in operation, on an every-30-minutes or every-60-minutes basis.
