Hello!
In June my boyfriend and I are heading to Berlin for a couple of days and would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on clubs/bars/venues etc that might offer something a little different to your ordinary cocktail lounge.
My boyfriends an artist/illustrator and we are both really interested and involved in the whole street art, squat culture. Also if anyone knows of any punk bars or the like?

Anything really different if great by us!!

And also, which area would be best to stay in if we were looking for things like the above?

Considering i've heard so many great things thrown around about Berlin, I don't suppose these things will be very hard to find. But any help or suggestions would be appreciated!!!

Thanks!!

Districts Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain or Kreuzberg would be the right places to stay in your case.

The weekly magazines Zitty and Tip have the most comprehensive listings what's going on in Berlin. You won't find of course real underground places/events there. But also not as an answer to your question here.

Hmmm? Wrong. Berlin is a damn huge and widespread place. It's sometimes hard to find even the official places. I've passed an underground place dozens of times before I learned about it.

Some of the hostel staff have a good experience what's going on and what may fit for you. When at a right location you can ask locals about other similar/better places.

There's a squatting building next to Zapata bar in Oranienburgstrasse in Mitte, there are a couple of bars in there and also, in the attic, there sometimes are art or photography exhibitions.

On Wednesdays, Mittwoche in PrenzlauerBerg is a great place that you may enjoy. It is like four couples from Schonhauser Alle.
