thank you all for the infos and the heads up..

I think I really need to rearrange my itinerary, but Berlin, Munich & Cologne still on the list. I really love history, culture & old cities and its architectures, so I guess I can find them in those three.

Yeah, honestly I'm not worry that much about race issue, but my family does, I don't know, maybe because I travel a lot and meet many people.

The trip is in spring, April/May, so I guess that's the most perfect weather throughout the year. I'm not a big fan of summer since my country is very tropical.

oh and it'll be 2 weeks trip, not that long..how much budget do you think I need, exclude the airplane ticket of course.

I would definitely stick to no more than 3 cities for 2 weeks (and try to get out into the countryside for a day or two as well).

Budget varies widely, depends on many things...like where you sleep, what and where you eat,how mnay paid 'attractions' you want to see,how (and how far) you travel around the country...plus optional extras like shopping or nightlife.

Maybe 60-70 euros a day is a decent 'backpacker' starting point....you can of course spend a lot more if you want to,and a little less if you try.

Stay where you are - not because it's unsafe, but because no-one needs prejudiced people like you.

I think it's not OP's fault that she thinks there might be problems with racism in Germany.

Unfortunately this is often how Germany is portrayed by the global media and the "German" media, political elite and the intellligentsia just helps this.

Yes,I agree..it is harsh on the OP Petra.

How many westerners (Americans,Australians,Europeans etc.) are irrationally afraid of large parts of the world due to media influence?

That is not to say there is no racism in Germany....there have been plenty of well documented cases, including deaths.

Just that.......firstly,these people exist in every society, and secondly.... that they are very rarely a threat to tourists.

Hello!
I am from Germany and I ´m confused that foreign tourist are so scared about racism in Germany...
I wish you a really warm welcome to "my " country and I think you can travel around Germany without having any problems.
Just take care at night with drunken people like in every other larger city in the world.
I was born in Luebeck and - of course- I recommend to go there...go to Travemuende (possible with train or bus) and from there to Priwall , there was the former border to DDR . and have a long walk at the nice beach.
Don´t worry and just have fun here....

Germany has lots of small jewels, like Cochem (in the Rhine), Rothenburg ob der Tauber (North Bavaria), Tubingen (Baden-Württemberg), Weimar (Saxony) and world-famous Heidelberg. In fact, I think you will find the "real" Germany in its towns and villages, although I think Berlin and Munich are also essential. Gute Reise!!

Anggi,

all the best with your travel plans. I am planning the same as you but in July-August. Travelling by myself.
I have friends in Germany which helps and I have to say they are very friendly people.

Great Comment from #9 above and I am surely going to take them onboard.
Berlin & Hamburg are my two destinations in Germany.

I live in Germany and I'm also confused about this racism concern.

Frankfurt could safely be binned without missing much.
Cologne is done in a day flat.
