Hello my boyfriend and I want to visit Germany the last week of September 2014. We want to be able to see a little bit of Oktoberfest. We also would love to see all the beautiful castles and landscapes Germany has to offer. If we have time we would like to visit parts of the black forecast as well.

When I research online it says Germany in September does not have as much rainfall and the summer months do. It says the temperatures are a little cooler as well.

My first question would be is the weather in Germany at the end of September nice? We don't want to have a lot of rainfall because we want to see the castles and landscapes.

Also we are totally lost on how we go about visiting Oktoberfest..... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Thank you I looked online and it showed that the most rain is in the summer months and then the rain starts to taper off during the fall. But I have a friend that lives in Germany and she told me the exact opposite. She said it rains a lot during September October and barely any during the summer. So it confused me

Can't predict weather in Germany next year ;-) But..you can look at averages over past years.

You will find i guess that it varies a lot depending on where exactly, but in Munich most likely you will find an average high of about 20° and a low (night) of around 10°.With some rain..maybe one day in three.

On Oktoberfest.

First thing (assuming you want to go to the classic one in Munich..right?)..you will need a large budget.

You will need to book accommodation in advance, and prices are far higher than any other time of year.If you leave it too late you will have to pay astronomical prices..many people book it 6 months or a year in advance.

Same goes for flights..if you are going to fly there..or trains etc.Book in advance.

Then.....you will need plenty of cash, esp.for beer! It is about 10euros a glass....that is a big glass though.

Despite this slightly negative tone,it is a great experience for most people.Really good atmosphere and Munich is a very interesting city too.A week is enough time for a look at the city and a bit of the countryside around.....you could go to the Black Forest before (or after) but personally if you have only a week I'd stick to Baveria.

But I have a friend that lives in Germany and she told me ...
As said it's unpredictable.
And where does that friend live, Kiel, Munich or Kaiserslautern makle a big difference.

In general my experiences for September are pretty good weatherwise, together with less crowded it's a good period. This year's mid September there was kinda heatwave in many parts of Germany (or almost!!!)

But look at the averages for the area where you plan to go.

And don't worry too much. It might lead to a Freudian lapsus;-)

We would like to visit parts of the black forecast as well.

even if we could predict next year's weather, there'd be the chance you'd hit the one week rainspell between two lenghty periods of clear blue skies... - in Germany, it's always good to be prepared for any weather and consider sunshine a bonus. general advice: dress in layers and just adopt to the situation, always have something wind/rainproof in your baggage + something else that can keep you warm, e.g. a jumper.

with a week, like arie I'd recommend sticking to Bavaria: plenty of worthwhile forests, too.

You better start your journey tomorrow to have a chance to have seen the most of them by next september. One week can only highlight a tiny bit. Germany has all sorts of landscapes from the coast line of the north and baltic seas down to the alps.
