i've just come heard about the reopening of the Hotel Ellington in Berlin. In the twenties it was one of the most bohemian places in the city; during the US occupation, it was the centre of the jazz scene with dzzy gillespie, duke ellington and ella fitzgerald staying and playing there; in the seventies it was the home of iggy pop lou read and david bowie.
but what will it be like fourth time around. Can the Zoo Station be cool again? Is this part of a renaissnace of the area and west berlin in general? Or should i go with what i know and stay and play in the east of the city?
