I'm stuck in Krefeld the week of Nov 26 for work.
Is there anything to do in the area in the evenings? Besides drinking of course.
We fly into Dusseldorf, and I'm sure there are things there....but what about Krefeld?

there used to be an awesome little ice cream cafe called Eiscafe Pinguine. Also vist Burg Linn if possible, nice view from the tower. At night- i dont know, sorry. I visited as an aupair so no going out for me. Might be worth visiting the christmas markets
Remember that it will get dark pretty early, don't think that there's a lot of outdoor stuff you could do after work, so the christmas market will be a good idea (go and drink some mulled wine with your colleagues).
Krefeld has the usual mix of theatres/cinemas/museums for a city its size, hardly anything special except for the two Mies van der Rohe-Villas that are part of the art-museum, but they'll close at 5pm already.
Düsseldorf might indeed be your best bet, it's roughly 30min away by public transport (train or tram), look for timetables at either Rheinbahn or Die Bahn, last transport from Düsseldorf to Krefeld will be around midnight.
Apart from the pubs in the Alstadt (oldtown), and the unavoidable christmas-markets, some museums in Düsseldorf will be open until 8pm, e.g. the 'Kunstpalast', which features the 'Bonjour Russia' exhibition right now (French & Russian art from the 1870-1925 period).
Further, there's a cinema in Düsseldorf (but close to Krefeld) that features some movies in OV, you could try a look at its homepage: Cinestar (unfortunately in German only), the tram stop is called 'Löricker Straße'.
Anything else? Yes: On Friday, 30th, the local ice-hockey team 'Krefeld Penguins' will match up with 'Polar Bears Berlin' (league leaders right now), if that's of interest to you...
