Some days in Baden-Wurtemberg

Hello all,

I am travelling to Europe from 11th August to 4th September (Belgium, Luxembourg, Alsace, Germany) and I thought of visiting the region, basing myself somewhere (I don't like to change lodgings often) and from there by train or bus make day trips to some cities.

I thought of visiting Freiburg, Tübingen, Baden-baden, Darmstadt, Stuttgart. I woudn't go to Heidelberg for I already know it.

I would like to her opinions on where to go and where to base myself. Also I'd like to know if somebody here could point to some hostel or zimmer where I could stay. I travel alone this part of the journey - I will be with CS friends in Lux and Colmar.

It may be in my plans to after that visit Munich, and I am in doubt if going there from Freiburg it would be better to have a stop in Ulm or in Lindau (or Friedrichshafen) to have a look and stay overnight.

I thanks for any answer I may get.

Roger,
Since there are better experts on the area I abstain from tips; I do advice you to tell something about your specific interests. For example being from Rio you probably don't like soccer but might be interested in visiting the Porsche museum..?..!..?
NB. Lindau, always a good choice due to ... everything.

Hi Roger
I can also recommend Lindau or any other place around the lovely lake of Constance. This is a tourist region so there is plenty of accomodation, although it might be a bit crowded due to school holidays. If you stay at a place with good access to public transport (Lindau, Friedrichshafen, Konstanz) you can do day trips from there to other parts of south germany (Freiburg, Ulm etc.) or just discover the region around the lake by public transport (recommendable: Insel Mainau).

Just to add to the good advice above, Freiburg is a beautiful mediaeval city. Stuttgart has a modern centre, due to damage in world war 2, but is in a beautiful green setting with much of interest - including Tubingen - close by. Try the search function from the menu at the top of this page for more tips on all these cities.

Have a look at what I wrote in #1 of http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187291-i826-k7571562-6_Weeks_in_Stuttgart-Stuttgart_Baden_Wurttemberg.html#59263156 . There's some good information in general about how to find interesting things to see and do, transportation, etc. That first hot link has at least several weeks' worth of excellent nearby sights and things to do. That information is nowhere inclusive, it's just the tip of the iceberg, but you didn't express any interests that could be specifically addressed.

My definite "must sees" would be the Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Tuebingen, and Germany's largest perfectly-preserved palace in Ludwigsburg. Those medieval monasteries are lovely, a few castles, and vineyards.

I thanks all the kind messages and apologize not to answer right away, but I am in a trip to the North of Brazil (São Luiz do Maranhão e Lençóis Maranhenses). I expect to answer as soon as I return.
