Hi guys, I'm looking for recommendations for a few days of natural relaxation in Mid or Northern Germany or the Netherlands that involves Spas, Natural Springs, swimming, Mud Baths etc.

I am not looking for fancy, expensive resorts or hotels as I am travelling on a budget and would prefer to visit such places on a day pass or something.

I do not think I have time to travel to Southern Germany ( I know this is where most places are ) as my flights don't work for there unfortunately.

I have heard there are quite inexpensive Spa type places in Germany for under 40 Euros per day. Are these places any good ?

Thanks a lot.

Take your pick in this map of spa towns and health resorts published by the German Spa Association here .

Are these places any good ?

It depends on what you are looking for - certain spa baths will be more focused on medical therapies and may have a somewhat austere atmosphere, but they are increasingly more geared towards "wellness", i. e. just soaking in hot water and relaxing in pleasant surroundings.

The day pass cost generally covers access to swimming pools and potentially saunas / steam baths (bear in mind that the saunas may be naturist and mixed/co-ed), massages or other treatments will have to be paid on top.

Alternatively, if you plan to travel in the summer, head to the North Sea coast and swim in the sea (be prepared for "bracing" weather and water temperatures).
As the most budget-friendly option, you could simply choose a town which interests you and has a nice municipal (outdoor) swimming pool (day pass cost: at most 5 Euro, as opposed to for instance 25 Euro at Kurhessentherme Kassel).

If flights work out for you, Hungary might be another budget-friendly option.

Thanks Riesling that is most helpful albeit all sites in German.

My main interests is Natural Springs and Mud Baths. Are all of these located in resorts/hotels or are there places I can visit on any day ? I am not interested in staying at a resort or expensive hotel.

Many thanks.

The baths are usually "standalone", i. e. you don't need to stay in a specific hotel to be able to use them.

However, there is usually an entrance fee (many places offer day passes and shorter passes for 2, 3, 4 hours or half-days) - as far as I know, there are no natural thermal water lakes or mud baths which can be accessed for free in Germany (but would be happy to be proved wrong). Iceland or Tuscany might be a better bet.

Much appreciated Riesling.

Oh no I wasn't looking anything for free. I just wanted to know if I could access Thermal Springs or Mud Baths without staying at the place.

Has anyone been to Thermal Springs or Mud Baths in the Netherlands, Mid or Northern Germany or Poland not far from Krakow ? Can anyone recommend somewhere they have been ?

Thanks.

Here is a List of possible towns:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_spa_towns_in_Germany

Most of them are quite small, some offer only mineral water for drinking, or have clinics for rehabilitation but no interesting offers for tourists/ day-guests. But you can have a look. I would recommend Aachen because it is a very interesting and beautyfull city and their "Carolus-Therme" are very nice: http://www.aachen.de/EN/ts/100_taking_a_cure/index.html
Also quite nice: Bad Neuenahr, which is a town situated beautyfully near Bonn, Cologne and the Rhine valley and has a famous wellness and spa.
