Would love some feedback on our plans and some hotel reservation suggestions too. Traveling in Sept with 9 people - 7 adults and 2 children (12 and 2). Will be spending first part of the trip staying with relatives then venturing out on our own. The more nights we can stay in one place and still conveniently see the things we plan to see the better - that way we aren't constantly packing and unpacking all of our stuff. Thanks in advance for your opinions!!

Friday, – Land at 7:20AM; Family visits, maybe see downtown Frankfurt in the evening
*Sleep at Family’s House

Saturday – Hahn AFB, Traben-Trarbach, wine tour, Rhine on Fire at night in St Goar
*Sleep at Family’s House

Sunday – Dahlheim, Burg Eltz, Koblenz
*Sleep at Family’s House

Monday – Colonge or Frankfurt and anything else we missed
*Sleep at Family’s House

Tuesday – Heidelberg, maybe Stuttgart, drive South
*need to book hotel somewhere between Neuschwanstein Caslte and Zugspitze?

Wednesday – Neuschwanstein Castle
*need to book hotel

Thursday – Zugspitze
*need to book hotel

Friday – Eagle’s Nest
*need to book hotel

Saturday – maybe Salzburg?
*need to book hotel

Sunday – Dachau, dinner out at Beer Tent/ Festival Grounds
*Hotel booked

Monday – Oktoberfest
*Hotel booked

Tuesday – Flight leaves at 12:15.

don't expect me to provide you with your complete itinerary but why don't you just stay in Munich for all your destinations in Bavaria?

The Zugspitze is about 2 hrs away from Munich each way
Neuschwanstein wil take you about 2,5 hrs each way
Both reacheable with a so called bayern ticket which is valid the whole day for a maximum of € 38 for up to 5 persons a day. Sorry the link is in German only.

As for the Eagle's Nest this is in Berchtesgarden and tis will take you about 3 hrs each way just to get to Berchtesgarden ( and then on with a local bus) so maybe you can combine this with your trip to Salzburg.
Maybe not the fastest connection but you can get to Salzburg in over a liitle bit more then 2 hrs from Munich with the same "bayern ticket" as this is a border railwaystation to which the same conditions apply as in Bavaria. A faster connection will cost you considerably more.

From Salzburg you can get to Berchtesgaden in about 45 minutes. No idea about the prices though.

German Railwas (deutsche bahn) has an English version and so has Austrian railways ( English version ).

If you have your own car,then it might be even faster. And just make sure you do not get to Munich on or after September 21st when the Octoberfest starts and the prices of hotels increase.
