Oktoberfest?!

I'm sure this has already been addressed but there were too many to go through so I thought I'd just start my own thread and hope someone could throw me a life line.

I'm an Aussie (F/31) currently travelling/working in the UK and would LOVE to head to Oktoberfest. I may have some other people to go with but at the moment I'm really a solo traveller.

Any clues on the best tents, best area to stay in, best way to get tickets, best days/dates to attend or if anyone has a group and is looking for an extra body to make up numbers?!

I would appreciate anything that anyone has to offer up :)

Best area to stay in might not be the issue now, as you have left it quite late to organise - rooms do sell up well in advance, so it might be down to seeing what is around, albeit it a inflated cost.

I always stay at the Meininger Munich, which is about a 20 min walk from the Showgrounds where Oktoberfest occurs and it is ideal, although will be busy and party central during the festival.

The Paulaner and Hofbrau tents are good, but avoid the pig pen if you want to keep your clothes!

Consider using the "Advanced Search" function to narrow the dates when this topic was previously discussed?

Your best bet at this time might be finding an organized trip, there are normally a few companies offering trips from London, year ago I went on one of these which you could normally find advertised in the TNT magazine

I'd start with finding accom first - as others rightly point out a lot of it is gonna already be sold out. The tents tend to fill up fast, and queues form surprisingly early during the day.

You do need to get there early...I remember lining up almost from 8am, was crazy!

You only need to line up at 8AM on saturdays. On weekdays I usually enter the tents around 2PM and it is never a problem to find space.

Head to the lowenbrau tent. Good mix of locals and tourists. Its also never too hard to find a spare seat, especially if you are solo. After a few steins everyone are friends with each other
