Hi everyone,
I will be arriving in Frankfurt, Germany 23rd Aug and will be staying till the 26th before meeting my friends to make our way to Prague. I have read suggestions that perhaps staying at Mainz would be a cosier and more attractive location compared to Frankfurt. However I have problems trying to locate a hostel via the travel websites as they do not list Mainz under the location search. Can anyone suggest to me some simple bed & breakfast hostels in Mainz that I can book. I understand there is a big trade fair going on during this period and hence many of the places are offering peak period prices (much higher !!) and are fully booked ?? Anything in region fo 30 - 40 euros ?? In dire need of help as its very time consuming surfing all the travel websites trying to locate a place to stay.... its my first time to Europe so any suggestions are most welcome....

Many thanks in advance.....

Have you looked at mainz.de? It's available in English and the tourist information there is helpful.

For if you can't get anywhere, I stayed in the language school in Frankfurt which offers travel accommodation and it was fine. Language Alliance, 74 Kaiserstrasse. It is only three or four minutes walk from the main train station.

oh definitely go to mainz! i'm just after moving back from there, was an exchange student for 10 months. i loved it! there's a gorgeous old town (with the best doeber kebab place in the town!), beautifu churches, a big cathedral, gorgeous walkway by the rhine, festivals all the time! good shopping. beautiful towns and cities nearby. mainz is great! unfortunately, there are no proper hostels in mainz. there is a one for 28 euro a night, it's a kind of family hotel, the mainz jugendherberge. here's a link to it: http://www.hihostels.com/dba/hostel022048.en.htm

enjoy mainz! there is beautiful ice-cream for the summer there. lots of fun to be had! :)

it could be interesting for people still searching a hostel in Mainz. we opened a new one in 20min from the downtown of Mainz, in the rural, idilic town Flörsheim between vineyards and modern metropoles. . Either day trip to Mainz or Wiesabden, Frankfurt would be very easy. For all who are searching "off the beaten track" place in Germany : explore the surrounding vinemakers by bike, taste home-made riesling and enjoy the lanscapes, the way the locals are doing this: Wanderlust Hostel
