Sorry, sent earlier message too soon.
My sister has asked me to help her look into good international schools in Munich. She is probably going to be working there from September (either there or Florence, doesn't yet know where) for an international design company. I am checking out on the internet, but thought some personal recommendations might be useful. Her pay will be good, but she needs to find an international school for her sixteen year old son who so far has been living in and attending a lycee in Paris. He was hoping to find somewhere where he could study for the French bac as I don't think his English would be strong enough for the IB. Could anyone recommend a good school in the area?
Also, while I am at it, what are the nicer, more interesting, areas to live in in Munich? By that I mean close to arty stuff and not too stuffy (ie: not typically residential)

The big international schools in the Munich area are the Munich International School and the Bavarian International School. The former is south, the latter north of Munich. The friend of a son of mine goes to BIS and likes it. They don't have French programs, however.

There is also the Lycée Francais Jean Renoir, email: contact@j-renoir.m.by.schule.de

For neighbourhoods, this question is a little more difficult. In Munich "nice" can go hand in hand with "stuffy". Nice, i.e. expensive neighborhoods would be Bogenhausen, Harlaching, Grünwald - the latter is purely residential. Schwabing is nice and can be more or less stuffy. Glockenbachviertel or Haidhausen would be "funkier" areas.

Thanks for that info Julesinasia. I think the funkier areas would be more interesting for her and I have also come across the French lycee.

Some IB schools with a very diverse international population let the kids do IB exams in their mother-tongue, allthough there will be some core subjects being taught in English.
It's worthwhile to contact the school and talk about it with them. My colleague has worked at the Munich International School and he loved it.
