Guten Tag!

I will be traveling to Berlin in early July and would like to stay in the Mitte district of Berlin.

According to LP's Berlin Guide, that puts me in the middle of shopping, sights and nightclubbing. Correct? My big concern is that if I go out at night, I don't want to be stuck looking for transit to get "home".

Can anybody recommend a good hotel in or near Mitte that is either under or not much over 100 euros per night?

I don't want a frat house - just a nice, clean, friendly, quiet place to sleep,

Danke!

Berlin is a huge and widespread city and even the districts like Mitte are not small. I.e. there are also places in Mitte where are are not close to shopping, sights or nightclubbing.

Many of the sights are in Mitte. Also some of the bigger shopping areas/streets. Nightlife to some extent also, but if it comes to clubs rather not.

Depending on your tastes, much of the nightlife might be oustide Mitte, in areas like Prenzlauer Berg or Hackesaecher Markt.

Also, the S-bahn runs 24 hours a day, so staying in a place that is a short walk from an S-bahn station might be very convenient if you plan staying out late, and allow you a chance of trying out different neighbourhoods every night.

Based on the spots I know, if you want to feel "centrally located" (also in terms of access from the airports) my arguable recommendation would be to stay somewhere within walking distance from the Friedrichstrasse station (good for Mitte) or in the vicinity of the Alexanderplatz / Hackesaecher Markt stations (good for the nightlife scene in that part of the city).

Thanks everybody!

In which parts of town is Friedrichstrasse and Alexanderplatz? This will give me a reference of where to look.

The other area that looks central, convenient and fun is Nollendorfplatz, even if it is primarily gay.

Danke for anything you can offer! :)

I would say anywhere as close as possible to the Friedrichstrasse, Hackesaecher Markt and Alexanderplatz train stations; the mapping function in www.yahoo.de will help :)
