We are driving from Frankfurt to Scheibenberg, Saxony on Thursday a 4 hour driving trip (we are renting a car) Has anyone been to this part of Germany? We are going to Scheibenberg to the Fiedler Brewery. We like hiking, meeting interesting people, photography, cycling.... Also, any day trips from Frankfurt that you could recommend? We will be there for 6 days. Thank you!

As to your wished activities: When will you be there?
For cycling and hiking the Rhine and Moselle Valley are perfect.
(almost) flat along the river, and choose your climbing in the neighboring hills e.g. into the Hunsrueck. The foliage is getting coloured so an eldorado for photographers.
Much fruit ' in the wild' so you can brew your own plum brandy

Interesting people... IMO they're everywhere.

All this venues combined I would suggest Herrstein near Idar-Oberstein in the Hunsrueck; for the hiking cycling tours a.o. the Kupfer and Jaspis Pfad (Copper and Jaspis path).

Day trips from Frankfurt:-

Heidelberg
Koblenz
Baden-Baden
Cologne (take the ICE, book in advance for cheaper price)
Rothenburg
Wiesbaden and/or Mainz
The Rhine between Bingen and Koblenz (use K-D boats, they're v good, check the timetables first, but it's easily accessible via train)

I'd spend a bit more time in Saxony - the countryside in the area you're going is beautiful and not much visited. You're close enough to places like Schwarzenburg and Annaberg-Buchholz to make it worthwhile to spend some time in the towns, and an hour or so further east is Seiffen, the centre of the wooden toy industry which is a bit twee but different and has a long history.

If you are in a hire car you may need to check if your hirer will allow it (because of insurance requirements) but consider hopping over the border into the Czech republic to Karlovy Vary and Marianske Lazne, both within an hour's drive of the German border - the drive from Oberwiesenthal through Jachymov to Karlovy Vary is through an area with a long long history of silver mining going back best part of a thousand years and worth researching

Oberwiesenthal has already been mentioned. It's a village next to the highest mountain in Saxony: Fichtelberg. It offers some tourist things to do.
By the way: As it seems you are interested in breweries: The area between Frankfurt and southern Saxony is called Franconia and hosts hundreds of Breweries, many beers can only be bought in that region or even villages. Bamberg could be called the beer capital of Germany and is a beautiful town.
