Hi all

My wife and I are planning to go to Frankfurt for a long weekend.

All hotels seem to be in either Bahnhofsviertel or Sauchsenhausen.

Anyone knows what kind of districts these are, and if one is more preferreable then the other?

We're just looking to relax, eat out and enjoy life.

Any hints appreciated :-)

Have a good day.

Personally I would say look at another city, Germany has lots of great cities to me Frankfurt is not one of them. Unless you have a reason to be going there I would look at somewhere else.

Frankfurt has quite a lot to offer for tourists http://www.frankfurt.de/sixcms/detail.php?id=stadtfrankfurt_eval01.c.124836.en I would stay in the Bahnhofsviertel, Adina Apps or Frankfurter Hof, come up often on another forum, Sachsenhausen is on the opposite bank of the Main river, go there for an evening out to one of the old Applewine taverns.
You can even get the old town feeling if you go to Frankfurt/Hoechst, I don't know why so many people dislike Frankfurt, I'm not one of them.

I agree more with #1 than #2.

Unless there's something specific you want to see or do in Frankfurt.

Its not a terrible place. But there are plenty of more interesting ones in Germany...

I don't personally know Frankfurt but do know other major German towns and they all have a Bahnhofsviertel (area surrounding the main train station).
It would never be my choice of place to stay. Even looking OK during the day, they can transform into a magnet for every form of low-life come dusk.

Every group has its own dynamics, if you can't see the idiot then it's probably you.
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think :-D

Those areas are often a good place for budget travellers to stay...low prices, easy to access, good transport connections for day trips/local bus or metro etc.and usually a range of restaurants, bars etc.

In Munich for example I always stay a few minutes away from the station......never had any safety problems there.

#3 people go to New York to see the skyline why not Frankfurt? Profile says latvia so maybe they like to see high rise buildings.

I staied across the HBF in Bremen a little while ago, no problems even if it wasn't the best part of town, I also walk to the train station in Frankfurt after dark by myself and never had a problem.

I have stayed near the station in Hamburg and Munich without any issues, just round the corner from the Munich station i found one of the best bars i have been too in Germany.

I'm also with #1 rather than #2. Consider a day trip along the Rhine; get a train out to Mainz and then jump on the KD boat (https://www.k-d.com/en/home) for any part of the stretch between there and Koblenz.

I see the discussion, but I still don't see any reason to not go to Frankfurt unless someone can come up with somehting specific :-)
