any expats living in Hamburg at the moment who are up for a beer and currywurst sometime soon???

Nautiker is just being smart because your country description is Thorn Tree World ;)
A lot of people speak very good english iin Germany and are very happy to to communicate in english. People in Hamburg are generally very friendly and easy going, you shouldn't have any problems meeting people.

Being just back from a month in Sri Lanka (don`t ask), I had to do a lot of running around my neighborhood in Ottensen today. After this short abscence, the multitude of languages spoken by passersby took me again by surprise. Probably I even overheard your Thorn Tree World lingo. Why not hang around the "Mercado" and approach people who speak one of your languages? It might be not easy to take the first step but it may pay off really quick. And have you noticed the wide spectrum of ethnic restaurants in the city? That might be a good starting point as well.
