Hi,
I've been planning a cycle trip from Budapest to Stockholm starting Aug 1st and had planned to cycle up along the Elbe river from Prague as far as Hamburg.
I'm wondering is this now possible?
Can anyone give a recent update on the cycling conditions along the Elbe?

Can you read German? (or you could give Google Translate a go, or maybe an English version will be posted in a few days): There is an overview dated 17 July on the official Elbe Cycle Route website here, in the "news" section under the heading "Befahrbarkeit Elberadweg" (TT does not let me post a direct link).

Apparently, there are two sections in the Czech Republic which cannot be used at present, namely between Kralupy – Věltrusy where it is recommended to use the local roads or skip the section by using the train, and between Roudnice and Litoměřice roads via Terezin will have to be used. In between and further downstream there may be short local diversions.

In Germany, there are also some diversions, certain ferries are not running yet, and there is stretch on the right bank of the Elbe which is not open (around Wittenberge, Tangermünde). Overall, though, and from an armchair perspective, this does not sound too bad.

You could also cross-post your question on the "On your bike" branch on the off chance that somebody over there has recent personal experience.

Thanks for the above Riesling.
I've also re-posted per your suggestion in On Your Bike, to see if anyone has any first hand experience.

Something else that occured to me last weekend: If it's not already on your packing list, make sure to bring some moskito repellent - with the widespread flooding in June, there are more moskitos than in an average year. You probably won't notice them in the daytime, but at the onset of dusk, repellent will come in handy if you are close to a waterbody.
