Hello,

I sent an email to DB as I have never purchased train tickets online before. I checked on the sight and I need to get from Frankfurt airport to Nuremburg. I arrive 19/Sep 6:30 so thought I would get the 8:30 am train just incase there is any delay, in the sight it says I can buy a special ticket for 29 Euros on the ICE train, however DB told me the following

Prices from:

AUD 63 in 2nd class per person one way (advance purchase)

Add AUD 15 per seat reservation per person

Advance purchase fares quoted are available at time of quoting but can sell out at anytime

International reservations open between 60 and 120 days prior to the train’s departure date depending on the type of train service required.

We also charge:

1 x $15.00 shipping fee (AUD 30.00 for Northern Territory) documents are delivered by courier

1 x $40.00 process fee

1 x $40.00 late booking (if dept date from Australia is within 3 working days)

Payment method is by Credit Card (advised over the phone or by email). There are no fees for Visa and MasterCard. Amex attracts a 3% merchant fee.

I thought I would just be able to print my ticket off, so if I understand correctly they will also charge me a $40 fee for processing my request and $15 for sending me the ticket. Is this correct? If so then I am probably just better off buying the ticket when I am there.

Thank you for your help

They forwarded your mail to their ticket agent for Australia and the quoted prices are the ones of this company.

If you buy the EUR 29 special online it will cost you exactly EUR 29. The conversion into AUD will be done by your credit card company. When you buy a ticket online it is important
- to bring a printout of this ticket
- to bring exactly the credit card you used as ID during the buying process

An even better deal then the discounted specials after an incoming flight are the Rail&Fly tickets if offered by your airline.

Thank you so much for the reply - so in that case there will be no processing or mail fee if I print it out. Also the Rail&Fly thing seems great I am flying with a partner airline so I assume I contact them to arrange. I will also send an email to DB to get further info.

So when I am leaving Germany I am flying out of Frankfurt but the day before wanted to travel to Nuremberg from Stuttgart and then the next (day of flight) to Frankfurt will both these trips be covered? Or just the trip to Frankfurt?

Your information is wonderful - I find it all a bit confusing just going by what is on the websites - great to talk to people who actually have experience.

If you send an email to DBahn, you will almost certainly be referred, AS YOU WERE PREVIOUSLY, to their ticket agent in Australia, and, as you have already found out, prices from the agent are significantly more expensive than if bought directly from DB. Just deal directly with DB on their site, and follow Abalada's advice which is always accurate.
It is hard to imagine how Rail&Fly would cover a trip from Stuttgart to Nuremberg when you are flying out of Frankfurt! Only a trip directly to the airport would be covered.

Thanks adeben - I thought about that after I posted that there was no use in emailing them again and decided to just take Abalada's advice - as you said has a lot of knowledge.

And I don't know what I was thinking asking the Nuremberg question either - having a bad day obviously :-)

Is there a particular location I should choose for Frankfurt Airport? As there seems to be several choices in the drop down box.

Use "Frankfurt(M)Flughafen" - the system will pick automatically the best station/stop for you at the airport. Coming from Nuremberg this will be the Fernbahnhof (long distance train station).

Thanks Abalada for clarifying for me.
