Hello,
In August I expect to go to Hannover, Germany. From looking at maps, I believe Hannover is about 60 miles southeast of Hamburg. Is it possible to go by train to Trondheim, Norway from Hannover? About how far is that? It looks like there are land connections across Denmark, including Copenhagen, and Sweden, into Norway. I'm not a great map reader so would just like someone whose done it to let me know if this can be done. Your input is greatly appreciated!

Yes, it is no problem taking the train but it is a long way. The DB timetable usually gives you a connection via Stockholm which takes about 28 hours. The connection via Oslo is a bit shorter (25 hours, i.e. 17 hours to Oslo, 8 to Trondheim)

You can also check out the direct bus connection from Hannover to Oslo. It takes as long as the train, but you dont have to change. http://www.touring.de/index.php?id=2&L=1<BR><BR>If you want to get there fast, you could take a SAS flight for less than 200 Euro one way (www.scandinavian.net)<BR><BR>If you have time, a good option would be to spend some time in Copenhagen and take the train or the overnight ferry to Oslo (http://www.dfdsseaways.com/index.html). and take a train to Trondheim.

The other option of course is to go via Copenhagen and Stockholm by train and have some fun in these cities.

there are more lowcost flites from hamburg: chekc whichbudget.com
there are also a few Night time DIRECT ferries DE (rostock) to Trelleborg, in Sweden.
the bus will STILL require changes, but theyre not announced till you sit in it
and you USAers should all have a crash course in better lessons to actually learn geografy and atlas-readings

Taking a ferry to Trelleborg from either Rostock or Travemünde wont help much as this is not along the main train routes. An alternative is Kiel-Oslo (www.colorline.com).<BR><BR>It makes sense that taking a bus will also mean changing. bmta - whats your experience - are the busses usually on time?
